Hexamid Tarp Setup
Cutting Guy Lines:
30 feet (9 meters)
of spectra cord is included. Cut Guy lines to the following lengths, singe each
end w/ a lighter, and tie a 2 inch (5 cm) loop at both ends. The guy lines can
be looped on to the tent tie outs.
Front
center (1x) – 6 feet (183 cm)
Front and
back corners (4x) – 32 inches (81 cm)
Back center
(1x) – 26 inches (66 cm)
Back walls
(2x) – 4 feet (122 cm)
Setup Instructions (you can also
search for the “Hexamid Setup” video on YouTube.com):
- Adjust your trekking pole to
about 46 to 47 inches (118 cm).
- Stake out one of the front
corners.
- Pull the other front corner’s
guy line tight, then give it about 12-14 inches (30-36 cm) of slack and
stake it out.
- Insert your trekking pole at an
angle. The handle will be at the peak of the tarp. The tip will be in the
ground directly below the beak.
- Stake out the main guy line.
The front corners of the tarp should be about 6 inches (15 cm) off the
ground. The tarp will be free standing at this point.
- Stake out the back center guy
line.
- Stake out the back corners, and
back wall guy lines. The tarp should about 6 inches (15 cm) off the ground
all the way around.
If you are
using a tent pole instead of a trekking pole be careful- the pole can puncture
the fabric if it slides out of the reinforced area at the peak of the tent. You
may want to tape on foam to give it more surface area like a trekking pole
handle.
If you have trouble getting a good pitch try playing
around with the following:
- The distance apart of the two
front corner stakes when you first lay out the tarp.
- The length and angle of the
trekking pole.
Seam Sealing:
A free tube of McNett SilNet
seam sealer is included. The easiest method is to set the tent up outdoors and
apply the sealer to the smooth side of the seams and tie outs on the outside
of the tent.
Optional Hexamid
Doorway Instructions:
- 3 elastic loops should be
attached at the peak and front two corners of your tarp. The carabiners on the doorway clip to the loops.
- The door should be on the
outside of your trekking pole, and it should be fairly snug in place.
- The elastic with the cord lock
at the bottom of the door can be wrapped around the bottom of your
trekking pole and cinched tight.
- The doorway should overlap
ground at the bottom. If it is windy the door can be weighed down with
your gear, or staked out at the bottom.
- To get in or out unclip the top
clip and the door drops to the ground.
